Car accidents can lead to serious soft tissue injuries

Soft tissue injuries that you suffer in a car accident are some of the injuries that might be difficult to see. These injuries are often painful and can lead to significant life changes. Some of those changes might be long-term and others might not last as long.

The soft tissues of the body include the muscles, tendons and ligaments. These tissues are very susceptible to injury when they are exposed the violent conditions that are often present in a car accident. While these injuries can cause great pain, they might not be evident at the time of the accident. Instead, you might notice them later when you are trying to do normal activities.

Whiplash is one type of soft tissue injury. This occurs when your neck is injured because of the violent side-to-side or front-to-back motion that occurs in a car accident. This can cause a stiff neck, cognitive issues, sharp pains in the neck or back issues. These symptoms might not show up until a few days after the accident.

Some other types of soft tissue injuries include sprains, strains and contusions. Sprains and strains might lead to swelling and pain. The swelling might be noticeable to the naked eye. Contusions are bruises, which you will be able to see.

If you suffer a soft tissue injury, you need to seek medical care and document your injuries carefully. Medical records and documentation can tie your injuries to the accident. This can play an important role in your case for compensation if you opt to seek compensation from the other driver.
