If you're hoping to increase safety on the road for you and your family, choosing a new car with a high safety rating is a good idea. Here's a look at some of the top rated sedans according to Kelley Blue Book and other ranking agencies.
The 2016 Volvo S60 has a 5-star safety rating in crash testing. It also gets 37 miles per gallon on the highway according to the Environmental Protection Agency. It also has a high overall consumer rating, making it a well-rounded choice. Next to the Volvo is a Volkswagen: the Passat comes in with similar ratings all around. The Jetta, Golf R, Golf GTI, and standard Golf also all come in at the top of the list.
Outside of Volvos and Volkswagens, you might consider a Toyota. The Toyota Corolla has a 5-star crash test rating and gets similar mileage to that of the Volvo. You also benefit from the Corolla's well-known lasting power, which means if you take care of it, you'll be driving this vehicle safely for years. The Camry also has high ratings, providing you with choice among Toyota sedans.
For something different, you might consider the Tesla Model S. If you live somewhere that's friendly to electric cars, this sedan gets you premium safety with impeccable gas mileage. The EPA rates it at up to 90 mpg on the highway.
Once you find your safe sedan, drive carefully. If you are involved in an accident caused by another driver, don't hesitate to reach out to an attorney to understand what your rights are.
